Pilsen Community

Parent Committees

The parents at Pilsen Community Academy work to provide our students with a culture of continuous growth. Our parents meet and participate in various groups including the Local School Council, Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), and the Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC).

Local School Council (LSC)

Pilsen Community Academy’s LSC supports our school by making decisions that affect our children, their education and the environment of the school. The primary responsibility of the LSC is to select the school’s principal, renew the principal’s contract, approve the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (CIWP) and approve the school’s budget for the school year.

Our current LSC members are:

Principal – Leanne Hightower

Parent Rep – Kay Allen

Parent Rep – Dolores Cortes

Parent Rep – Maria “Lupe” Gonzalez

Parent Rep – Rosaria Rodriguez

Non Teacher Rep – Jerry Molina

Community Rep – Andrew Herrera

Community Rep – Troy Hernandez

For more information about the LSC, including how you could become involved, visit the CPS website.

Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC)

The Illinois School Code establishes the Bilingual Advisory Committee (BAC) as a standing committee of each Local School Council (LSC) at schools which have bilingual educational programs. As such, the BAC is responsible for advising the principal and the LSC regarding the planning, operation and evaluation of bilingual program services.

The primary purpose of NCLB is to ensure that students in every public school achieve important learning goals while being educated in safe classrooms by well-prepared teachers.
