Hello Pilsen Community! I'm Mrs. Weber, the Librarian at PCC.
I earned a BA in Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The next nine years I spent traveling the world as a Flight Attendant for American Airlines. Following that valuable experience I switched gears and worked sales for Getty Images. It was there that I rediscovered my passion for literature and knowledge and decided to pursue a career in Education. In 2005, I received my Masters Degree in Education/Library Endorsement. After a short stint as a substitute teacher for CPS, I found my way to Pilsen Community Academy. This is my ninth year as the librarian at PCA.
The focus in the library is to instruct students how to acquire, evaluate and use information and the technology needed in this process. These lifelong skills will help prepare students to be effective users of ideas and information. I am equally passionate about the world of literature. Through grants, fundraisers and donations, I try to provide a collection of literature that fits the vision of the school and reflects the interests of the students. I love sharing my literary knowledge with the students at Pilsen and encourage them to explore the world through the adventures of reading.
In my spare time I love to hang out with my husband, friends and family. I also enjoy cooking, traveling, practicing yoga, doing puzzles and of course reading !
Currently, the middle schoolers are exploring the CPS library databases, exposing them to thousands of academic resources they can use across the curriculum. Using these databases and atlases funded rough a CFE grant, grades 4-6, will be researching the larger world around us. Second/third grade will be studying health and nutrition this year. And the kindergarteners are learning about literary elements/phonics.
